“Aleix Garcia Provides Clarification on Barcelona Comments Amid Criticism from Girona Supporters”
In the past 24 hours, Girona midfielder Aleix Garcia has found himself at the center of significant controversy and criticism from his own supporters following comments he made regarding his former teammate Oriol Romeu’s summer transfer to Barcelona.
During an interview with RAC1, Garcia expressed his understanding of Romeu’s decision to join Barcelona and indicated that he, too, would have made the same choice if presented with the opportunity.
He stated, “If I were (Oriol), I would leave to Barcelona with my eyes closed too. It’s a pity that he left because we have a very nice relationship. When we face each other, I have already told him that I will go for him.”
These remarks immediately ignited a firestorm of criticism from Girona supporters who were concerned that Garcia might contemplate leaving their club, especially to join their Catalan rivals, Barcelona.
However, in an effort to clarify his comments and defuse the tension, Garcia took to social media to address the situation. He emphasized that he did not suggest he would leave Girona for Barcelona with his eyes closed and that his comments were solely intended to support his close friend, Oriol Romeu.
Garcia’s clarification read, “I would like to clarify the words I said yesterday. I was only supporting a great friend like Oriol Romeu, at no time did I say that I would leave with my eyes closed. Mine and his situations are completely different. If anyone was offended, I’m very sorry. I love Girona.”
Aleix Garcia’s importance to Girona’s squad cannot be overstated, as he has consistently delivered outstanding performances since joining the club. Understandably, the club’s fans expressed concern about the possibility of losing such a valuable player, especially to a rival like Barcelona. However, Garcia’s reassurance that he loves Girona suggests that he remains committed to the club and is not actively seeking an exit.
