Spanish Football Federation Expresses Concerns Over Negreira Case Judge Following Referee Corruption Allegations
The Negreira case continues to make headlines as new developments unfold. Last week, Joaquin Aguirre, the court magistrate leading the investigation into the Negreira case, made a startling claim. He alleged that there was a group of corrupt referees who were in collusion with Barcelona during the period when their alleged relationship with Enriquez Negreira transpired.
These claims were met with strong denials from the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA), which vehemently rejected any such allegations. Reports even suggested that the CTA was contemplating taking legal action against Aguirre for his statements.
Now, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has stepped into the fray. According to reports from Cadena COPE, the RFEF has formally denounced Aguirre for his comments. They express regret that he has accused a group of referees of corruption without specifying any names. The RFEF’s legal services have taken action by submitting a letter to the General Council of the Judiciary. The letter urges Aguirre to name the referees who are implicated as being corrupt, a demand that adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation.
Barcelona, in the midst of this turmoil, remains under investigation by Spanish authorities, facing charges of bribery. The club has vehemently denied these allegations and is cooperating with the investigation, while the legal proceedings continue to unfold.
