Poll shows Messi would be voted as Argentina president should he decide to run for office
With 7 Ballon d’Ors in the bag and now a world champion, what should the next step be for Leo Messi? Perhaps become the president of Argentina!
According to a poll from Giacobbe, who inquired more than 2,500 Argentines, 43.7% of the respondents would vote “yes” for Messi to become the country’s next president. Only 37.8% said “no” while an additional 17.5% responded “maybe”.
Moreover, when Giacobbe offered the respondents to choose between Messi and other presidential candidates — including current president Alberto Fernandez, former president and first lady Cristina Kirchner and federal deputy Javier Milei — 36.7% said they would vote for Leo.
By far the best result.
Certainly, Messi becoming president sounds far-fetched. However, he wouldn’t be the first footballer to do so. George Weah, the 1995 Ballon d’Or winner, is the incumbent president of Liberia.
For the record, Argentina’s next elections are planned for October 2023. Leo will likely still be an active football player then.
