Sociedad Manager Imanol Alguacil Optimistic: ‘Why Not Beat Barca and Close the Gap?

Imanol Alguacil, the manager of Real Sociedad, expressed his optimism during a press conference, saying, “The normal thing against Barcelona is that you lose. What is not normal is that if we win, we are only two points behind them, on top of that playing in the Champions League.”

He continued, “We will try [to beat Barca]. This time last year we were already able to win, why not here now? If we win, we get within two points, these are moments to enjoy, and I would like to do it by winning.”

While Barcelona had secured a 4-1 victory against Sociedad in August the previous year, Sociedad later managed to defeat Barca 2-1 at Camp Nou in May. With the two teams set to face off once more, today’s game is anticipated to be a competitive match, and while Barcelona is the favorite, it’s expected to be far from a walkover.
