Sergi Roberto and Marcos Alonso Set to Depart Barcelona Next Summer as Contracts Won’t Be Renewed
According to reports from SPORT, Barcelona has made the decision not to extend the contracts of two players, Sergi Roberto and Marcos Alonso, who are likely to depart the club next summer.
Both Alonso and Roberto have seen minimal playing time during the current season and have experienced a decline in their prominence within the team. However, their role as leaders in the locker room remains highly valued by Xavi and the coaching staff.
Marcos Alonso, who featured prominently last season at both left-back and center-back, now finds himself behind Alejandro Balde in the pecking order. The recent addition of Inigo Martinez has further diminished his prospects as a left-footed option in the center-back position.
Sergi Roberto, serving as the team’s captain, has fallen behind summer signing Joao Cancelo and Ronald Araujo in the pecking order. The midfield competition has also intensified, making his playing time limited.
