Barcelona’s Struggles with Throw-Ins: A Cause for Concern?
I was rewatching the game against Sociedad, and I noticed that both Balde and Araujo (but mostly Balde) almost always give away the ball in every throw-in,” a Barca fan using the handle JDHC posted on Reddit.
“I swear this is not something that I have noticed with any other team I watch. Why do we suck at this?”
JDHC isn’t alone in this observation; many Cules share the same sentiment regarding throw-ins.
Amdatgud commented, “We used to have a very good throwing routine about a season or two ago, but teams have figured it out, and we haven’t adjusted yet. We’re so slow in throwing the ball, wasting at least 10 seconds before even picking it up.”
SomewhereExisting added, “It seems that the objective on every throw-in is to throw it as far as possible. And then we are surprised that the ball is lost right after. What’s wrong with playing safe short throws and retaining possession?”
FCBlazingbiology pointed out, “We used to have an effective throw-in routine where FDJ would start away from the thrower and then run toward it. The thrower would throw it in his path, and he could switch it. I don’t see other players doing this move.”
AdamAlexanderRies expressed a broader concern, saying, “We’re always outnumbered. This is an issue broader than throw-in tactics, in my opinion, it’s antithetical to positional philosophy, so I’m not holding my breath.”
Asarnia concluded, “Not only do we suck at throw-ins, we also struggle at defending them too.”
Do you believe Barcelona’s issues with both executing and defending throw-ins are legitimate concerns?
