Del Piero Downplays Napoli’s Champions League Prospects Ahead of Barcelona Clash

Following Napoli’s victory over Hellas Verona over the weekend, Walter Mazzarri’s team continues to build confidence ahead of the upcoming clash against Barcelona in the Champions League round of 16. However, according to Alessandro Del Piero, legendary Juventus captain and World Cup champion with Italy, Napoli doesn’t have much to achieve in the continental competition.

Speaking on ‘Sky Calcio Club,’ Del Piero analyzed the situation of Piotr Zielinski, who was excluded from Napoli’s Champions League squad due to his potential move to Inter. “In his place, I would have taken him. From the player’s point of view, it’s obvious that you’re not happy,” Del Piero remarked.

Further, ‘Pinturicchio’ played down Napoli’s chances in the competition: “There is the league as well. I don’t think Napoli will go very far in the Champions League, so they should aim to finish fourth in Serie A, and that is not yet guaranteed,” he emphasized.

While Mazzarri’s team remains focused on the crucial match against Milan on Sunday, their main objective is to secure a place in European positions before facing Barcelona in the first leg of the round of 16 on February 21 at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
