Barcelona Eyes Klopp as Xavi’s Successor: Aubameyang Gives Thumbs Up
Xavi Hernandez bidding farewell to the helm of Barcelona at the end of the season has prompted the sports management to prioritize the selection of a new coach. Among the favored options is Jurgen Klopp, who has also announced his departure from Liverpool at the end of the season after nine years at the helm of the Reds.
The German coach has stated his intention to take a sabbatical year to recharge his energy. This desire, coupled with his high profile, presents two obstacles that Barcelona would need to overcome if they opt for his incorporation.
To bolster the case for Klopp as the ideal successor to Xavi, a player who has been under the guidance of both coaches has endorsed the potential hiring of the current Liverpool manager.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, in an interview with Gerard Romero, praised both Klopp and Xavi. Klopp signed Aubameyang for Borussia Dortmund in 2013, and the French-Gabonese forward spent two seasons under him, playing 94 matches, scoring 41 goals, and providing 16 assists.
Under Xavi’s guidance, Aubameyang played 24 games, delivering an assist and scoring 13 goals, including two in the 4-0 victory at Santiago Bernabéu that ended Barcelona’s five-match losing streak against Real Madrid.

His personality fits in at Barcelona,” stated Aubameyang, expressing delight at the prospect of seeing his former coach at the helm of Barcelona. “Klopp gives you everything, energy, has won significant titles, is a good coach. If there’s a possibility for Barcelona, it’s a good option. I felt very comfortable with him in Dortmund. It would be incredible if he could come.”
“Xavi is a great person, and you have to trust him.” Having said that, the Gabonese striker, currently with Olympique Marseille, urged Barça fans to continue trusting in the team and Xavi: “The season isn’t over for Barcelona. There’s La Liga and the Champions League. We’ve suffered, but we have to give everything to win something. I think of Xavi, and he’s a great person, and you have to trust him.”
Aubameyang then reflected on his brief but intense stint at Camp Nou. “I have no reproach for Barça; that’s life. I spent a short time here, but the most important thing is the good memories I’ve retained,” expressed a grateful Aubameyang, who only regrets not being able to prolong that chapter: “I think the obstacle for not continuing at Barça was the economic issue. I was one of the few players the club could sell; otherwise, I think I could have stayed for more years.”
