Manchester United Seriously Pursues Tuchel as Xavi’s Potential Successor
The decision by Xavi to step down as the head coach of Barcelona at the end of the season has triggered a flurry of speculation regarding his possible replacement. Among the leading candidates to fill his position is Bayern Munich’s current coach, Thomas Tuchel.
Despite having a contract in place until June 30, 2025, Bayern Munich and the German coach will part ways at the end of the season. Following the recent setbacks for the Bavarians against Bayer Leverkusen and Bochun in the Bundesliga, and Lazio in the Champions League, which have jeopardized their chances in both competitions, Bayern has a different project in mind, potentially led by Xabi Alonso.
Tuchel’s availability on a free transfer facilitates negotiations with Barcelona, as the club may not be willing to pay a compensation fee to release him from his contract with Bayern. However, this circumstance also puts Tuchel on the radar of other top clubs in Europe.
Florian Plettenberg, a journalist from ‘Sky Sports’ Germany, insists that Manchester United is a serious contender for Tuchel to continue his coaching career. The future of Erik ten Hag at Manchester United is uncertain, as the Dutch coach has not achieved the objectives for which he was hired. Tuchel fits the profile sought by the Red Devils, and the German coach is open to returning to the Premier League, where he believes there are still goals to be achieved.
Tuchel previously managed Chelsea from 2020 to 2023, securing the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup during his tenure. However, the Premier League title eluded him.
While Barcelona and La Liga are appealing to Tuchel, and the Blaugrana likely top his priorities, coaching Old Trafford’s team would also fulfill his expectations.
