Camp Nou to Name Its Gates in Tribute to Football Icons and Club Legends
In a bid to infuse more identity into the revamped stadium, FC Barcelona plans to name the gates of the new Camp Nou after football players, coaches, presidents, and historical figures. The initiative, mirroring a concept implemented by Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium, aims to commemorate the rich history and contributions of individuals associated with the club.
The anticipated unveiling of the new Camp Nou is scheduled for November, coinciding with the 125th anniversary of the club. While the timeline remains subject to confirmation, Barcelona is already outlining plans to enhance the identity of the iconic venue.
Each gate is envisioned to carry the name of a specific personality, showcasing a diverse range of figures. For instance, Gate 10 might bear the name of football legend Leo Messi, while Gate 20 could honor Sergi Roberto. The intention is to extend recognition beyond players to include coaches, presidents, and other influential figures who have left an indelible mark on Barcelona’s history.
This innovative approach aligns with a similar endeavor by Espanyol, where gates at the RCD Stadium are named after former players, coaches, and notable contributors. Notable personalities such as Ernesto Valverde, Josep Parra, Toni Argilés, and Julián Arcas have been immortalized through this symbolic gesture, emphasizing the lasting impact of their association with the club.
