Aleix García: Candid Conversations on Barcelona and Aspirations for the Future
Girona’s midfielder, Aleix García, shared candid insights during an appearance on Jijantes’ Twitch channel, addressing his past positive remarks about FC Barcelona and expressing his aspirations for the future. Despite stirring controversy, García stands firm, asserting that he doesn’t regret speaking highly of Barcelona but acknowledges concerns about the timing and approach.
“I don’t regret speaking well of Barça, but rather the timing and the manner. In the end, I am very transparent, and sometimes I have discussed it with other teammates… Why can’t we be transparent?” García commented on Gerard Romero’s show. In a previous interview with Movistar Plus, Garcia expressed his desire to play for Barcelona, the club he has followed since childhood.
Reflecting on a challenging week after Girona’s victory against Barcelona, he stated, “Winning was… tough. I had extra pressure, and I think it worked well for me in the game. Barcelona presses and dominates, but I believe we played a perfect match.”
Discussing former teammate Oriol Romeu, who transitioned from a starting position to a substitute role at Barcelona, García empathized with Romeu’s situation. “Those of us who care about Oriol Romeu have all suffered. We trust him, and we are aware that he can reverse the situation, but Barcelona is such a big club, with such immense pressure, that it can be challenging.”
Opening up about Romeu’s departure, he revealed, “When Oriol Romeu left, we were preparing the team with him as a pivot, and it was a shock. I think we had a very good preseason, felt comfortable from the start, and have compensated well for his absence.”
Shifting focus to Girona’s current status and their recent performance dip, García offered a perspective on public expectations. “People get used to success, and when you lose two games, they see that Girona is not taking off. We’ve been up there for many matchdays, and we give it a lot of credit. We are confident to the fullest.”
Speaking about Girona’s coach, Michel, García praised his impact, saying, “Since the first day he arrived, he instilled a style of play. We’ve added players like Eric and Blind, who bring that extra because they have played this style all their lives. Good vibes are the key.”
Looking at both his past and future, García shared his short-term goals, emphasizing the upcoming call-up in two weeks and the Euro 2024. Reflecting on his journey, including a stint with Dinamo, he noted, “Perhaps if I hadn’t gone to Dinamo, I wouldn’t have this motivation and mentality right now. Fortunately, I was able to return to Eibar with Mendilibar and refocus. I think this experience has given me maturity.”
