Xavi Hernandez’s ‘Farewell’: A Boost for Barcelona
Xavi, regarding his future: “Better This Situation Than Having to Sack the Coach”
Yesterday marked the 11th consecutive match in which Barcelona ended undefeated (eight wins and three draws). This streak began when Xavi announced in a press conference (after a resounding 3-5 loss to Villarreal) that he would not continue as Barcelona’s coach next season, despite having one year left on his contract.
The Catalan cited one of the reasons for his decision as freeing the squad. Two months after his announcement, Barcelona remains unbeaten, securing some notable victories such as the 3-1 triumph against Napoli, which earned them a spot in the Champions League quarter-finals, and the 0-3 win against Atlético Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano.
