Spanish Authorities Set to Make Ruling on Barcelona’s Case Against Former President Josep Maria Bartomeu in Upcoming Month
Barcelona has been grappling with several legal matters in recent months, one of the most prominent being the El Caso Negreira case. However, they also have an ongoing case in which they are the claimant, involving their former President, Josep Maria Bartomeu.
On February 1st of the previous year, current President Joan Laporta held a press conference, during which he accused Bartomeu of “crimes of disloyalty, misappropriation, and accounting falsehood.” Bartomeu had served as the club’s President immediately preceding Laporta.
According to reports from Sport, Barcelona has submitted their dossier on the matter to the Attorney General’s Office of Barcelona. The Attorney General’s Office, in turn, has directed the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan police force) to lead the investigation into Bartomeu.
The outcome of the case is expected to be decided by the end of this month, at which point it will be determined whether the case will be archived or proceed to court. If the case proceeds, legal proceedings will be initiated.
At present, it remains uncertain which direction the case will take, as the Prosecutor’s Office has had minimal or no contact with the individuals involved thus far. In the interim, Barcelona must wait to learn whether the matter will advance or reach a resolution.
The outcome of this case carries significant implications for both Barcelona and Bartomeu, potentially shedding light on the alleged wrongdoings and their repercussions. Football enthusiasts, as well as the club’s supporters, await further updates regarding the progress of this legal matter, which could have significant ramifications for Barcelona’s future.
