Taylor Swift Allegedly Influencing Vote in Favor of Jude Bellingham for European Golden Boy
Real Madrid’s rising star, Jude Bellingham, has emerged as the frontrunner for the prestigious Kopa Trophy, also known as the European Golden Boy award. However, an unexpected twist involving Taylor Swift and her fans, known as “Swifties,” may play a role in Bellingham’s favor.
Bellingham is among the five La Liga players nominated for the award, which includes Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde. Balde initially stood as one of the top contenders for the trophy alongside Bellingham. Still, according to the latest reports, he has significantly fallen behind in the public vote.
According to Marca, Bellingham experienced a substantial surge in the voting process, garnering 49.5% of the votes compared to Balde’s 27.5%. This surge in support for Bellingham is attributed to the backing of Taylor Swift’s fanbase, the “Swifties.” Allegedly, comments made by Balde about his musical preferences, where he reportedly stated, “No, I don’t like Taylor Swift’s music,” were picked up by Swift’s online community. One tweet discussing Balde’s comment has garnered over 8.2 million impressions, potentially giving Bellingham the edge in the race for the award. In third place, currently, is Lewis Hall of Newcastle United, with 6% of the vote.
While Bellingham possesses a strong case for winning the award based on his footballing prowess alone, this unexpected turn of events highlights the sometimes unconventional nature of voting for individual awards. These awards are highly subjective, and it appears that Taylor Swift’s fans may be more organized and influential in supporting their favorite player than some international managers and players who participate in the Ballon d’Or voting, according to many observers.
