Liga F Season Kickoff Faces Delay as Player Strike Is Confirmed Due to Disagreement on New Pay Structure
Despite weeks of intensive negotiations between Liga F and five player unions representing the top-flight women’s football players in Spain, an agreement has remained elusive regarding improved pay and working conditions.
Over the past three days, representatives from the parties involved have engaged in marathon 10-hour meetings in a determined effort to reach a consensus, as reported by Diario AS. Unfortunately, despite the extended discussions, a mutually satisfactory agreement has yet to be reached, prompting decisive action.
As a result, players from Liga F clubs will initiate a two-week strike starting from Friday. This means that the opening two rounds of fixtures for the upcoming season will not take place as scheduled and will instead be postponed to a later point in the campaign.
Liga F has issued a statement in which they disclosed that their offers to the player unions were all ultimately rejected, leading to the current impasse.
This situation is particularly disheartening given the remarkable summer that women’s football in Spain recently experienced. La Roja achieved a historic milestone by securing their first-ever World Cup victory. The delay in the start of the new season due to this ongoing issue is undoubtedly disappointing, and it is hoped that a swift resolution can be reached to allow the continuation of the progress made in women’s football in Spain.
