“I Extend My Sincere Apology”: Xavi’s Farewell Message to Jordi Alba Before His Departure for Inter Miami
The transition of Alejandro Balde into Barcelona’s primary left-back role in the previous season was a significant decision made by coach Xavi, but it wasn’t one he took lightly, given his long-standing connection with Jordi Alba, the player he displaced.
In a glimpse behind the scenes from the Barca’s New Era documentary (season 2), Xavi’s heartfelt speech in the dressing room showcased his sensitivity to the situation. During his address to the players, Xavi expressed his empathy and almost seemed to apologize to Alba for the change in his role.
He stated, “If at any point you’ve felt disappointed, then I’m truly sorry. I care a lot about you, and I admire and respect you. You know it’s nothing personal, but sometimes as a coach, you have to make decisions.”
Despite the challenging transition, Alba decided to make a significant move of his own. He opted to leave Barcelona on a free transfer, even though his contract was originally set to run until 2024, and joined Inter Miami.
In his new adventure with Inter Miami in Major League Soccer (MLS), Alba now enjoys regular playing time and shares the pitch with his close friends Sergio Busquets and Lionel Messi. This move appears to have resulted in a mutually beneficial outcome, as Alba continues his football journey in a new environment, surrounded by familiar faces and forging new experiences.
