A Barcelona fan, known by the username KillerWhale, recently shared a harrowing tale of how he narrowly escaped a catastrophic earthquake in Morocco, a story that underscores the capricious nature of fate and the pivotal role played by a fussy child in averting potential disaster.

KillerWhale recounted the terrifying turn of events on Reddit, revealing that he had been driving through the very area that would later become the epicenter of a devastating 6.8 magnitude earthquake in Morocco. His initial plan had been to make a detour from the highway and traverse a toll-free road that passed through the region where the earthquake would ultimately strike. His intention was to spend the night in a traditional clay lodge in that area. However, an unexpected twist of fate intervened.

It was his child’s persistent fussiness that ultimately influenced KillerWhale’s decision to change course and head to Casablanca instead. This seemingly trivial disruption in their plans turned out to be a lifesaving decision. As KillerWhale reflected, “I can’t stop thinking what would’ve happened had I stayed there.”

Even though he and his family were approximately 320 kilometers away from the earthquake’s epicenter in Casablanca, the tremors were still profoundly unsettling. KillerWhale described the experience vividly: “The whole building was shaking, and it was as if every cupboard door in the kitchen had someone repeatedly opening and slamming the door. And the rumbling sound was f***ing terrifying.”

He went on to explain the eerie nature of earthquake sounds, stating, “I heard about earthquakes making sounds but never thought it’s as terrifying as this. It comes from beneath you as if the whole floor is a giant subwoofer playing the deepest frequency there is.”

According to Sky News, the earthquake in Morocco claimed the lives of 2,059 people, leaving an additional 1,404 injured. The epicenter was situated in the Atlas Mountains, approximately 70 kilometers from Marrakech. The quake’s devastating impact extended to over 300,000 individuals, illustrating the far-reaching consequences of natural disasters and the importance of timely decisions that can avert tragedy. KillerWhale’s story serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable forces of nature and the significance of every moment in shaping the course of our lives.
