“Xavi’s Decision on Lamine Yamal Could Backfire,” Warns Analyst, Echoing Fans’ Concerns
Many Barcelona fans have expressed concerns about the workload of 16-year-old Lamine Yamal this season, fearing that the young talent might be prone to injuries if he plays too frequently.
However, analyst Domagoj Kostanjsak argues that there’s no other way for Xavi to manage the situation effectively. He believes that Xavi has to strike a balance between giving Yamal playing time and ensuring he doesn’t overexert himself.
Kostanjsak explains, “The thing is, how can you watch Yamal play and then think Xavi will bench him? Sure, he has to manage his minutes carefully, but he also HAS to play him; otherwise, he’d just be shooting himself in the foot. The boy is outperforming experienced players. He’s ready.”
He acknowledges that while Yamal may still be growing and maturing, he is indeed prepared for a significant role in the team. Kostanjsak suggests that it’s essential for fans and the coaching staff to accept that Yamal will play a substantial role this season.
Lamine Yamal is expected to be a regular starter for Barcelona, with Raphinha serving as his substitute, particularly during the team’s busy schedule. The 16-year-old has already showcased his talent with a goal and an assist in his last four games, making him one of Barcelona’s most potent attackers, especially as Robert Lewandowski has been struggling for goals.
