Barcelona Eager to Secure Vitor Roque’s Arrival in January

Barcelona’s head coach Xavi Hernandez and Deco are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to expedite the arrival of Athletico Paranaense striker Vitor Roque at the club this January.

The talented 18-year-old Brazilian forward was acquired by the Blaugrana for a transfer fee of €30 million, along with €31 million in potential add-ons. While his original arrival date was set for July 2024, Barcelona’s technical staff is urging the board to make the deal happen in January, providing the team with a crucial midseason boost and alleviating the pressure on Robert Lewandowski.

Currently on the mend from an ankle injury, Roque is working toward returning in the upcoming weeks before the conclusion of the Brazilian Serie A season in early December. Roque’s agent has reportedly traveled to Barcelona to lay the groundwork for his arrival, including securing accommodation.

A decision regarding Roque’s January move to Barcelona is expected by November 15, less than two weeks away. If the green light is given, Roque will take a week of holiday before relocating to Barcelona, allowing him to adapt to his new surroundings in advance.

Should Barcelona fail to secure the deal now, Roque will remain with Athletico PR until July of next year. Given Barcelona’s thin squad and their heavy reliance on Lewandowski, Roque’s presence could be a game-changer for their season, even if he doesn’t make an immediate impact on the pitch. The mere ability to rest Lewandowski without compromising the team’s overall attacking prowess could significantly alter the course of the season under Xavi’s leadership.
