Barcelona Set to Let Marcos Alonso and Sergi Roberto Go When Contracts Expire

Barcelona has reached a definitive decision not to extend the contracts of Marcos Alonso and Sergi Roberto, which are both set to expire next year. According to reports from Diario Sport, this marks the club’s final stance on the matter.

Currently, both players have limited playing time under Xavi this season, with Sergi Roberto sidelined due to injury.

The club is expected to officially communicate this decision to the players in January as the season unfolds.

Sergi Roberto, who has been with Barcelona for almost a decade, is currently the longest-serving player emerging from La Masia. On the other hand, Marcos Alonso joined the team as a free agent in the summer of 2022. Although Barcelona initially extended his contract with a one-year club option, it is now clear that this option will not be activated.

Barcelona may find themselves in the need to acquire a younger player should these seasoned veterans eventually depart from the club.
