Xavi Provides Update on Frenkie de Jong’s Return and Pedri’s Availability
Xavi, the Barcelona manager, addressed the potential return of Frenkie de Jong in a press conference, stating, “The return of Frenkie de Jong? It depends on his sensations, I can’t answer. Just as Pedri had a very good feeling and has the ‘ok’ from the doctors, Frenkie doesn’t. He has tried, he has trained, but he is still in pain.”
Regarding Pedri, Xavi stated, “[For Pedri] he’s available and at 100%. To me, he looks ready, and it’s great news for the team.”
He also emphasized the importance of injury prevention, saying, “We work a lot on injury prevention; it’s Pedri’s objective and everyone’s objective. Hopefully, he and all of them can have that continuity to show their level at Barca.”
Frenkie de Jong has been sidelined for nearly two months since sustaining an injury in Barca’s victory against Celta Vigo in September. While he is not expected to return to training this week, it’s anticipated that he will make a full recovery by the end of the month.
As of now, the sidelined players for Barca are Sergi Roberto and Frenkie de Jong.
