Xavi Clarifies Joao Cancelo and Ronald Araujo’s Roles at Barcelona

Barcelona supporters have expressed confusion over Joao Cancelo’s deployment in an advanced role and Ronald Araujo’s positioning in recent matches.

When quizzed about the future positioning of Cancelo and Araujo, Xavi provided clarity, stating, “Cancelo will revert to his natural position, primarily functioning as a full-back, around 80% of the time. We deployed him differently for tactical reasons against Real Sociedad and Real Madrid.”

These comments suggest that Cancelo will soon return to his traditional right-back role, while also possibly featuring in the right-wing or midfield positions during significant fixtures. Araujo, who has excelled as a right-back in recent matches, is expected to return to his natural central defender role in the upcoming game against Shakhtar Donetsk.
