Ousmane Dembele has opened up about his decision to leave Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) last summer. While he initially expressed his intention to stay at Barcelona, his perspective changed after discussions with PSG.

In a candid statement to L’Equipe, Dembele revealed, “Indeed, I said that I would stay at Barcelona [last summer], but, after maintaining contacts with PSG, I convinced myself that I should leave.” The French winger’s desire to embrace new challenges and opportunities led him to make this pivotal decision.

Furthermore, Dembele expressed his affinity for PSG, emphasizing, “I signed for PSG because it’s a French club and I love it.” This strong connection to his homeland played a significant role in his move to the Ligue 1 giants.

Notably, Dembele mentioned that he had conversations with former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique, who played a convincing role in his transition to PSG. Despite experiencing a goalless streak, Enrique holds a strong belief in the 26-year-old’s abilities.

Since joining PSG, Dembele has made 13 appearances without scoring a goal. However, he has contributed with three assists, highlighting his value beyond goal-scoring.

In the summer transfer window, Dembele completed his move to PSG from Barcelona for a transfer fee of €50 million. His journey to PSG represents a new chapter in his football career, filled with fresh opportunities and challenges.
