FIFA Compensation for Gavi’s Injury: Barcelona Set to Receive €5.5m Under Club Protection Programme
FIFA is slated to compensate Barcelona with €20,548 for each day Gavi remains sidelined due to his recent Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury, as reported by Diario AS. However, this reimbursement, part of FIFA’s Club Protection Programme (CPP), is capped at 365 days.
Gavi sustained the ACL injury while playing for Spain in a Euro qualifier against Georgia, and with an anticipated recovery period of nine months (270 days), Barcelona is poised to receive approximately €5.5 million when the talented midfielder is ready to play again next season.
The CPP is designed to cover the risks of player injuries during international matches, offering compensation to clubs for losses incurred in terms of player salaries during the period of injury.
While Barcelona is set to accept the compensation, it’s worth noting that a healthy Gavi would have been invaluable. The 19-year-old has made a significant impact, featuring in 15 games for Barca this season, scoring twice and providing one assist. Unfortunately, he won’t be able to contribute further to these statistics in the current season.
