Gavi’s Devastating Blow: Barcelona Star Sidelined for Nine Months with ACL Injury
Barcelona has been hit with a significant setback as it was confirmed that Gavi, a pivotal player for the team, has suffered an ACL injury while on international duty. Renowned sports doctor Juanjo Lopez Martínez, who serves as the personal physician for tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, shared insights into the injury, projecting a recovery period of at least nine months.
Examining the video footage and the sequence of events leading to the injury, Dr. Lopez Martínez highlighted a crucial maneuver called ‘valgus,’ involving the knee inward with rotation. He pointed out a prior indication that Gavi withdrew from the play, emphasizing the instability experienced during the ball reception.
“The first play where the cruciate was injured, especially because of the valgus,” explained Dr. Lopez Martínez. He outlined the typical surgical procedures for ACL injuries, involving hamstring tendons, patellar tendons, or quadriceps tendons, with a recovery period of nine months.
This unfortunate news comes as a significant blow to both Barcelona and Gavi, who was expected to play a crucial role throughout the season and potentially contribute to his country’s efforts in the 2024 Euros. If the prognosis holds, the young talent might also miss the 2024 Olympics.
