Ilkay Gundogan Dreams of Champions League Final Reunion with Man City

Ilkay Gundogan harbors high hopes for Barcelona’s Champions League journey this season, expressing his desire to see the Catalans reach the final clash. When asked about his dream opponent for such an encounter, the German midfielder named his former club, Manchester City, and his ex-manager, Pep Guardiola.

“Hopefully, we’ll have a reunion soon in a Champions League final,” Gundogan shared with The Players’ Tribune.

As both Barcelona and Manchester City lead their respective Champions League groups, the possibility of them meeting in the last 16 seems remote, making Gundogan’s dream scenario increasingly plausible.

Reflecting on his departure from Pep Guardiola’s side, Gundogan acknowledged the difficulty of parting ways but noted that the destination, Barcelona, added a touch of sweetness to the transition. “I think maybe Pep was hoping that we would come here to City together and leave together, but I know that he understands my decision. I am sure it helps that I’m going to his boyhood club,” said Ilkay.
