Xavi Praises Alvaro Morata’s Qualities Amid Past Interest from Barcelona

In a press briefing leading up to the Barcelona – Atletico Madrid showdown, Xavi expressed admiration for Alvaro Morata, hailing the striker as a tremendous asset.

“Morata is an exceptional forward, a selfless player who contributes significantly to the team’s efforts. His work rate and ability to exploit spaces make him stand out. I hold a great deal of appreciation for him,” Xavi remarked.

The Barcelona manager revealed that there was a genuine interest in signing Morata, with discussions taking place. Despite the intention to bring him on board, the transfer did not come to fruition.

Morata’s name initially surfaced as a potential signing in January 2022, and while negotiations were underway, a deal failed to materialize. Barcelona later secured Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the same transfer window.

Even six months later, Morata was considered as a contingency plan if the pursuit of Robert Lewandowski fell through. However, the Polish striker’s move was successfully completed.

Morata, now continuing his stint at Atletico Madrid, has proven his worth in La Liga this season, boasting seven goals in 12 appearances and establishing himself as one of the league’s top scorers.
