Barcelona Announces Marc Andre ter Stegen’s Surgery and Prolonged Absence
In an official statement, Barcelona has confirmed that goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is scheduled to undergo spinal surgery in the upcoming days. The decision comes in the aftermath of the lower back injury he sustained while representing Germany on international duty in mid-November.
The 31-year-old is anticipated to be sidelined for almost three months, with a projected return date set for February 12, 2024. While missing a significant portion of the season, ter Stegen aims to recover in time for the Champions League round of 16.
During his absence, the responsibility of guarding the Barca goal will fall to Inaki Pena, who is expected to step into the role until ter Stegen’s return.
