Xavi Fires Back: Barcelona Coach Addresses Criticism Amidst Back-to-Back Defeats
In a press conference leading up to the clash against Valencia, Barcelona’s head coach, Xavi, delivered a strong response to the recent wave of media criticism following the team’s consecutive defeats.
Expressing his surprise at the abrupt shift in perception, Xavi stated, “What surprises me is that people are jumping ship at the first rough patch. A month ago, you told me that I was the Ferguson of Barca. Now I’m on the street [referring to reports of his possible sacking]. This is crazy.”
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Xavi highlighted their achievements, saying, “Last year we got eliminated [from the Champions League], but I don’t understand it now. We qualified for the playoffs from the first place, we are in the race for La Liga…”
Acknowledging the need for improvement, Xavi remained optimistic about Barcelona’s potential success, stating, “Of course, we need to improve, but we can still win four titles. What’s all the noise about?”
Despite currently occupying the fourth position in the league standings, seven points behind the leaders, Xavi emphasized that the season is far from over, with ample time to bounce back and turn things around. The mid-season mark is yet to be reached, and the coach is confident in Barcelona’s ability to contend for multiple titles.
