Girona Targets Nico for January Move: Barcelona’s Former Midfielder on the Radar
Girona has set their sights on Nico as their primary target for the January transfer window, according to reports from Nil Sola. The former Barcelona midfielder, who was previously sought after by Michel in the summer, is now likely to secure a move to Porto, given his diminishing role at the club.
Barcelona holds a buy-back option for Nico at €30m and will also receive a portion of the transfer fee if the La Masia graduate is sold. A potential move to Girona could see Nico contending for La Liga glory this season, as Michel’s side currently sits 2nd in the league, level on points with Real Madrid and holding a 10-point lead over Barcelona.
Nico previously played under Xavi, amassing 26 appearances and contributing to three goals. After a loan spell at Valencia last season, he departed Barcelona for Porto in July for a transfer fee of €8.4m.
