Former Referee Lahoz Defends Christensen’s Tackle: ‘Nothing Wrong
Retired La Liga referee Mateu Lahoz has spoken out in defense of Andreas Christensen’s crucial interception leading to Barcelona’s first goal against Osasuna. Lahoz emphasized that players often exaggerate contact to earn fouls and insisted there was no wrongdoing in this instance.
“I agree with everyone, there is nothing wrong with Christensen’s interception [before the first goal],” Lahoz told the media. “Players want to get a foul so much that they go to extremes. There is nothing there,” he added.
Despite Lahoz’s current stance aligning with Barca’s favor, it’s noteworthy that during his refereeing career, he exhibited a stricter approach towards the Catalan club. Over the course of 49 matches officiated, Lahoz handed out 111 yellow cards to Barca players, with only Atletico Madrid receiving more (155). Additionally, he awarded seven penalties against Barca and issued four red cards. The revelation adds an interesting perspective to Lahoz’s current assessment of Barca’s on-field actions.
