Barcelona Stands Firm on Oriol Romeu Amid Besiktas Interest
Barcelona midfielder Oriol Romeu has been a subject of transfer speculation, with clubs like Girona and Getafe expressing interest in December. The latest entrant in the race for the veteran midfielder is Turkish powerhouse Besiktas. However, Barcelona has made it clear that Romeu is not available for sale.
According to MD, Barcelona has no plans to part ways with Romeu, and unless presented with an “irrefutable” offer, the 32-year-old will remain with the club at least until the summer. One key factor influencing this decision is the limited financial gain Barcelona would achieve from his sale. Romeu joined the club for €3.4 million from Girona in the summer, signing a two-year deal. Selling him would marginally impact their salary cap, leaving little room to secure a replacement. Barcelona, therefore, sees no compelling reason to let him go and would only reinvest 50% of any transfer fee received.
While Romeu started the season well, his playing time has been reduced since September, and recent performances have not matched the level he exhibited last season at Montilivi. Despite this, Barcelona remains steadfast in retaining the experienced midfielder.
