Lewandowski Eyes Copa del Rey Glory: FC Barcelona Striker Sets Sights on Unclaimed Spanish Title
Robert Lewandowski, the star forward of FC Barcelona, took center stage at the Grand Gala of Mundo Deportivo, where he was honored with the Renfe Trophy for securing his ninth consecutive league title and being the top scorer in the last LaLiga edition with 23 goals. Following the award ceremony, Lewandowski was queried about his impressive debut season with Barcelona and the goals he has set for the current campaign, starting with the quarter-final clash against Athletic Club in the Copa del Rey.
“Scoring goals is never easy. I’ve played in a team with many young players, and I feel very good. I feel very well in Barcelona and in this team. Last year, we won LaLiga, the Supercopa, and I was the top scorer, but this season is very important for us. We need a winning streak, going from victory to victory. We also want the Copa del Rey, and we aim to reach the final. In LaLiga, we need more points, but step by step. I’m confident that at the end of this season, we can, together, achieve something,” Lewandowski said, earning applause from the attendees at the Mundo Deportivo Grand Gala for his adept Spanish.
Expanding on his initial statement, Lewandowski emphasized the challenge they face in the match at San Mamés. Still, winning the Copa del Rey stands out as a personal goal since it’s the only Spanish football title he has yet to claim in his professional career.
“It’s crucial for us in terms of confidence if we win. Yesterday, we secured a 4-2 victory against Betis on a field that is always challenging to conquer. We are FC Barcelona, and we know where we want to go. Now, we are aiming for the Copa del Rey in a match in Bilbao. The goal is to reach the final and win. It’s the title I haven’t won in Spain, and it’s an objective for me. However, it’s not just about winning; it’s also about scoring many goals for the people and the fans,” expressed Lewandowski, who attended the Mundo Deportivo Grand Gala alongside his wife, Anna Lewandowska.
