Barcelona Players Express Support for Departing Coach Xavi

Following his press conference announcement on Saturday, Xavi has informed the team about the reasons for his early departure from the club as a coach on June 30. In an emotional meeting, with President Joan Laporta present, the Terrassa-born coach explained the reasons behind his farewell. Some players, however, have publicly expressed their support.

The first to send a message was Gavi. The Andalusian midfielder, currently sidelined due to injury and visibly moved during the locker room summit, posted a message on Instagram on Saturday that read, “Always with you, coach.” The second player to speak out was Pedri, also taken aback by Xavi’s decision and affected by the news of the coach’s premature departure.

The Canarian midfielder shared a message on his official Instagram account expressing his sadness about Xavi’s departure. “These are tough days for everyone. We need to stop making excuses, be critical of ourselves, and overcome this for the coach, the team, and above all, for the club and for you,” he says, primarily addressing the fans. Pedri concludes the message with emojis of hands seeking forgiveness and a heart, along with “Força Barça!”

Other players opted for post-match statements, with Frenkie de Jong focusing on Xavi. “Of course, there is full confidence in the coach and the coaching staff, who are doing a very good job. It’s our fault, the players. We have all the conditions, and if things don’t work out, it’s our fault.”
