Barça Announces Oshoala’s Transfer to Bay FC in the U.S.

FC Barcelona officially revealed on Thursday the transfer of Asisat Oshoala to Bay FC in the United States. Although the exact transfer fee was not officially disclosed by the club, it is expected to be around 150,000 euros. The Nigerian forward had been absent from the team’s daily activities in recent days, with the club granting her permission to finalize negotiations for her move to the Californian team. Bay FC confirmed the signing with a contract extending until 2026, with an option for an additional season.

Oshoala concludes a five-season chapter with Barcelona, joining the club in January 2019 from Chinese side Dalian Quanjian FC. During her tenure, Oshoala achieved remarkable success, winning two Champions League titles, four LaLiga titles, four Supercopas, and three Copa de la Reina trophies. One of her notable achievements is being the first goal scorer for Barcelona in a Champions League final. In numerical terms, her stint with Barça comprises 162 appearances and 117 goals.

Bay FC, a newly established team, is set to make its debut in the NWSL in March 2024 and is based in San Francisco, California. Notably, the club was founded by four legends of the U.S. women’s national team – Brandi Chastain, Aly Wagner, Danielle Slaton, and Leslie Osborne – in collaboration with the global investment firm Sixth Street. Incidentally, Sixth Street played a role in Laporta’s strategies and owns 25% of the club’s television rights for LaLiga over the next 25 years.
