Mixed Responses and Contradictions Arise Over Laporta’s Super League Claims

0

In a recent statement, Barcelona President Joan Laporta confidently discussed the prospective return of the Super League, highlighting significant clubs’ interest in the project. However, shortly after his comments, discrepancies emerged as some of the mentioned clubs refuted Laporta’s claims.

Laporta, emphasizing the lucrative nature of the Super League, mentioned notable clubs such as Milan, Inter, Napoli, Roma, Olympique de Marseille in France, Bayern Munich, and PSG. He expressed optimism about their potential involvement in the competition, downplaying concerns about the absence of PSG, Bayern, and Premier League clubs.

Contrary to Laporta’s assertions, AS Roma promptly released a brief statement reaffirming their distance from any Super League initiative. The statement emphasized the club’s unchanged stance and clarified that there have been no discussions or reconsiderations about joining such a project. This contradicts Laporta’s earlier assertion of Roma’s agreement.

Similarly, Feyenoord, through a repost of their December 21 statement, reiterated their reservations about the Super League. The Dutch club emphasized that they have not committed to the Super League nor engaged in discussions with its proponents. Feyenoord expressed doubts about the initiative’s benefits for most clubs and national leagues. The club indicated its ongoing commitment to collaborative efforts through the European Club Association (ECA) to enhance European football and strengthen the position of Dutch football.

The conflicting responses underscore the complexity and uncertainty surrounding the potential revival of the Super League, with some clubs contradicting Laporta’s confident projections.
