Samu Omorodion: A Threat to Barcelona’s Defense
Alavés’ forward, Samu Omorodion, emerges as a danger to Barcelona’s defense, having previously found the net in the first leg and recently scoring a brace against Almería. Barcelona’s defense has shown vulnerabilities throughout the season.
Omorodion stands out as one of Deportivo Alavés’ key offensive assets. The Basque team has solidified its position in the mid-table with three league victories, and Omorodion’s recent double against Almería ended a scoring drought. Competing for the ‘number 9’ role with Kike García and Giuliano Simeone, Omorodion hadn’t scored since November, breaking the dry spell against his former team, Granada, with a close-range header.
His previous goal came against the upcoming opponent, FC Barcelona, scoring in the first minute of the match. In the first half of that encounter, he proved to be a nightmare for Barcelona’s defense, both in open spaces and within the penalty area, although he couldn’t capitalize on all the chances he created.
Barcelona must keep a close eye on the Babazorro forward to prevent defensive woes, especially considering Xavi’s team has conceded more goals in the league than Alavés. The defensive pairing to counter Omorodion at Mendizorroza is still uncertain for Barcelona, with Christensen being a likely candidate, although Cubarsí featured against Osasuna, and Íñigo Martínez might make it to the squad.
Luis García Plaza has spoken highly of the striker, acknowledging his efforts despite occasional errors. Omorodion, having secured a spot in the regular starting XI under the Madrid-born coach, is poised for a starting role against Barcelona. Additionally, Luis Rioja, who won’t be joining Betis, will be available for selection.
