Heightened Security Measures in Catalan Derby: Sabadell Restricts Barça Colors in Gol Nord

The upcoming Catalan derby on Sunday between CE Sabadell and Barça Atlètic (18:00 hours) is set to have reinforced security measures following recent incidents. In a move unprecedented for the Arlequinado club, CE Sabadell announced on Wednesday afternoon that it will not allow any Barcelona symbolism, specifically in the Gol Nord section of the Nova Creu Alta. Supporters displaying such symbols will be relocated to the designated area for away fans.

The rivalry between Sabadell and Barça Atlètic has intensified in recent years, marked by incidents that have prompted this decision. The security measures aim to prevent a recurrence of last season’s invasion by some Barcelona supporters.

In the 2021/2022 season, CE Sabadell fans expressed discontent when, during their visit to the Estadi Johan Cruyff (ending in a 0-2 victory), they were not allowed to display their colors outside the away section.

This season witnessed a similar situation in the first-leg match, which ended in a 4-1 victory for Barça. However, in this case, the supporters of the Vallesano team were already informed in advance.

The FC Barcelona has adopted such practices in away games where a large number of visiting fans are expected at the Estadi Johan Cruyff. The away supporters are confined to a specific section, fostering unity among them, as seen in the case of Deportivo de la Coruña.

Now, CE Sabadell is implementing this measure based on the advice of security forces, but it applies only to a specific section of the Nova Creu Alta, the Gol Nord.

The Sunday match has generated considerable anticipation, and ticket sales are proceeding at a brisk pace. CE Sabadell has successfully climbed out of the relegation zone, stringing together five consecutive matches without a loss, earning 11 points out of a possible 15.
