Dani Rodríguez Faces a Major Challenge
In his fourth season at Barcelona, Astarriaga’s player, Dani Rodríguez, is set to make a significant leap in his formative years. Having delivered exceptional performances in the Youth League, the left-winger of Barça’s Juvenil A aims to gain the trust of Rafa Márquez. Rodríguez has emerged as the standout player for the Juvenil A in the Youth League, showcasing his skills as one of the most influential players in the competition. With the Barça Youth team out of the Youth League, the big challenge for Dani Rodríguez lies in increasing his presence with the reserve team.
His goal against Mainz, starting from the center of the field, demonstrating powerful ball control, and finishing with his weaker foot, is yet another testament to the immense qualities of this 18-year-old player. Playing in the Juvenil A under Óscar López and Barça Atlètic under Rafa Márquez this season, Rodríguez has alternated between the two teams. In the Youth League, he has played 10 games, scoring one goal and contributing to 50% of the team’s goals in Europe with four goals and three assists.
The Mexican coach has called up Dani 12 times, featuring in six games in the Primera Federación. Although predominantly a impact substitute, he has accumulated 106 minutes in these matches. While Diego Percan, Alarcón, Jaume Cuéllar, Iker Goujón, and Unai Hernández have been playing on the wings for the Barça Atlètic, none have firmly established themselves as a disruptive winger. Dani, still a youth player, is likely to continue participating with Óscar López’s team, aiming to compete in La Liga. However, his performances in the Youth League may persuade Márquez to grant him more minutes and thus earn more continuity with Barça Atlètic.
In addition to straddling between Juvenil A and Barça Atlètic, Dani Rodríguez has drawn attention from Xavi Hernández more than once. Despite speculations about his potential inclusion in the first team for the Alavés-Barça game, the chosen players were Pau Víctor and Unai Hernández.
Dani Rodríguez, recruited by Jordi Roura from the Cadete B of Real Sociedad in the summer of 2020, wishes to continue his journey with Barcelona. His current contract expires on June 30, with Barcelona holding an option to extend his contract for two more seasons. Recently changing his representation to Pini Zahavy, who also represents notable figures like Lewandowski, Dani aims to earn the trust of Rafa Márquez and shine in Barça Atlètic, making him a prospect for the future in the left-wing position – an area the Barcelona coaching staff considers one of the team’s potential areas for improvement.
