Melanie Serrano Returns to the Pitch with Levante Las Planas After Brief Retirement
Former Barça footballer Melanie Serrano, who retired in 2022 at the age of 32, is making a comeback on the playing field by signing with Levante Las Planas until the end of the season. Serrano had been training in the grassroots football of the Blaugrana club and took part in Gerard Piqué’s Queens League.
Melanie Serrano spent 18 seasons with Barça, playing in over 500 matches and clinching 17 titles. The Seville native decided to retire in 2022 to embark on a new journey in grassroots football, specifically coaching the Infantil D team. However, her coaching stint lasted only one season.
Expressing disappointment with the club’s treatment during her final phase at Barça, Serrano stated, “I felt that the club was unfaithful to me,” referring to the low offer the club presented if she wanted to continue.
After leaving her lifelong club, Serrano took on the role of coordinating women’s football at CD Blanes while participating in the Queens League. The former Barça player featured for teams such as Porcinos FC and X Buyer.
Levante Las Planas’ Urgent Solution Amanda Frsibie’s injury on the left flank prompted the Catalan club to seek an alternative. Serrano, who can play both as a fullback and midfielder, returns to La Liga F after a year and a half without competing at the highest level.
Levante Las Planas aims to overcome their struggles in 2024. The team, managed by Ferran Cabello, has not secured a victory since December 12 of the previous year and faced elimination from the Copa de la Reina against Sevilla.
