Football Set for a Revolution with Introduction of Blue Cards: Xavi Welcomes the Experiment
A new revolution is on the verge of hitting the football world. As reported by ‘The Telegraph’ in recent hours, blue cards will be introduced in matches after approval from IFAB. These cards will serve as a middle ground between yellow and red cards. According to the British outlet, a player receiving a blue card will be expelled from the game for 10 minutes before being allowed back on the field.
Xavi Hernandez was asked about this development in the press conference ahead of FC Barcelona’s clash with Granada CF in the 24th round of LaLiga EA Sports 2023/24. The Barça coach made it clear that he doesn’t dismiss the idea. “I think we should give it a try. FIFA is right to experiment with things in youth, cadet, and lower categories… If it works, it’s another tool for football. If it’s good for football, they will see it right away. Let’s see. For now, it’s just a hypothesis. We haven’t tested it,” was his response.
