FC Barcelona Navigates Intense Fixture Period with Impressive Streak

The FC Barcelona women’s team is entering the final stretch of its most demanding period of the season to date. Since returning from the Christmas break, the team has embarked on a relentless seven-week stretch, comprising 44 days with double matches – a total of twelve games across Liga, Copa del Rey, Supercopa, and the Champions League.

This week adds two more challenges to the schedule. On Wednesday, February 14th at 18:00, a Liga match against Levante, originally postponed due to the Supercopa. Following this, on Sunday at 14:00, Barcelona hosts Atlético Madrid at the Johan Cruyff Stadium.

Out of the ten matches played so far since January 6th (Levante Las Planas), the team has secured nine victories and experienced one draw. The draw occurred against Benfica on January 31st, during the last group stage match of the Champions League, a result without consequences as Barcelona had already secured qualification to the quarterfinals as group leaders. This draw served as a learning opportunity to address and rectify mistakes.

Of the nine victories, seven have been by a margin of four goals or more, including commanding wins over Real Madrid (4-0) and Levante (7-0) in the Supercopa semifinal and final, respectively. Other notable victories include a 9-1 triumph against Levante Las Planas (January 6th, Liga) and an 8-0 demolition of Sevilla (February 7th, Copa del Rey).

Looking ahead to the upcoming international break, scheduled between February 19th and 28th, Spain’s internationals will be vying for qualification to the Paris Olympic Games this summer and competing for the Nations League title. Post-break, the team faces another four weeks of double matches, encompassing eight games in 25 days. This period includes Copa del Rey semifinals against Athletic Bilbao and a Champions League clash with Norwegian side Brann. Effective minute management to prevent injuries, involvement of younger players, and the anticipated return of key figures like Alexia Putellas and Fridolina Rolfö will be crucial factors.
