Nuremberg Coach Cristian Fiél Rules Out Joining Flick at Barcelona
The departure of Xavi Hernandez from FC Barcelona at the end of June, a season before his contract ends, has set off a search for potential successors. Among the top contenders for Xavi’s position is German coach Hansi Flick, who currently doesn’t have a team but boasts an impressive coaching background. Flick has expressed his interest in taking on the challenge of managing Barcelona and has been actively preparing for the potential role.
As reported by the German media, Flick has started Spanish lessons, signaling his commitment to overcoming language barriers for a new sporting project in Catalonia. However, one name that was previously considered as a possible assistant coach alongside Flick has withdrawn from contention. Cristian Fiél, the current coach of 1. F.C. Nürnberg, has decided not to pursue the opportunity.
In an interview with ‘Bild’, Fiél humorously mentioned, “I wasn’t smiling; I was laughing out loud. Today was my last day, and I’ve packed my bags. I’ll send a postcard from Barcelona. My brother lives in Castelldefels. Probably, I’ll go with him first. He has a nice little house there.” Fiél acknowledged having some familiarity with Flick “in football” and having “spoken briefly before and things like that.”
