Lewandowski Hits 50 Goals for Barcelona, Closing in on Cruyff’s Record
Robert Lewandowski, who joined FC Barcelona in the summer of 2022 with the mission to score goals, has achieved a significant milestone. The Polish striker reached 50 goals in Barcelona colors after his double against Celta Vigo, surpassing renowned goal-scorers like David Villa (48 goals) and Thierry Henry (49). With just 10 goals away, Lewandowski’s next target is to match Gary Lineker’s record of 52 goals.
Lewandowski’s goal-scoring average stands at 0.63 goals per game (50 in 79 appearances). In his debut season, he netted 33 goals in 46 matches, averaging 0.71 goals per game. In the current campaign, he has added 17 goals in 33 appearances, maintaining a rate of 0.51 goals per game. The Polish striker, the top scorer of the Xavi era, leads with double the goals of Ferran (25) and a 36-goal advantage over the third and fourth top scorers, Raphinha and Pedri (14 each).
The prolific Lewandowski is also the Barcelona player who has opened the scoring the most this season across all competitions, sharing the feat with Ferran at six occasions. In Liga, Lewandowski leads with four such instances, closely followed by Joao Félix with three.
With eight goals already in 2024, Lewandowski’s scoring contributions fuel the hopes of the Barcelona fans. While the gap in La Liga remains substantial despite narrowing it by two points this matchday against Real Madrid, the Champions League serves as a beacon for potential silverware this season.
If Lewandowski maintains his current form, Barcelona will remain competitive in both competitions until the end of the season. The Polish striker has his sights set on climbing further in the list of Barcelona’s all-time top scorers, with Gerard Piqué (53), Michael Laudrup (54), Andrés Iniesta, and Josep Sastre (57), Martí Ventolrà (58), and Johan Cruyff (60) as his next milestones.
