Cubarsí, Immersed in Barça Passion Ahead of Another Historic Moment
Cubarsí, the ‘veteran’ at heart, has become a significant presence in the Barça dressing room.
“I am very happy; it’s been a dream since I was a child. I have always been a Culé, always wished for this moment, even if it’s a friendly,” said Pau Cubarsí after making his debut with the Barça first team in Dallas on December 22. Little did the Estanyol native know the turn his life was about to take.
Opportunities had been given for the Girona-born center-back’s debut. The inconsequential match in Antwerp came, then Barbastro, but it wasn’t the day. Xavi waited to give him the chance when he was convinced he could have continuity.
Gaining Influence
It was in Salamanca that the long-awaited moment arrived. Since then, he has become a regular fixture. His presence has continuously gained influence to the point that, currently, he is a starter by merit according to the coach. He is also the one who best moves the ball among those on the roster.
Eight games have already been played with the first team at just 17 years old. Playing in a delicate context, in a Barça that practically plays a ‘final’ every week and is exposed to high levels of media pressure.
Residing in La Masia
However, all this whirlwind has not made Pau lose his direction or focus. He resides in La Masia, alongside many other talents from the Barça youth system. He is aware that he still has a spot in Barça Atlètic. And his teammates are there.
Whenever he hasn’t had a first-team match, Cubarsí has attended the stands to watch Márquez’s team at Johan Cruyff Stadium. This Sunday, he didn’t miss the victory against Rayo Majadahonda (Fermín was also there, now with the first-team squad). He was on the bench even before the match.
We also recently saw him in the stands, along with other Barça Atlètic teammates, watching the Barça Women’s team. It was during the Barça-Eintracht match in the Champions League group stage.
In conclusion, he demonstrates that his commitment to Barça goes far beyond the pitch. It reflects an identification and club values necessary in a football landscape so commercialized.
This Wednesday, he could experience another historic moment by making his debut with Barça in the Champions League.
