Montse Tomé Provides Insights on Alexia Putellas’ Potential Return to the Field
Spain’s national team coach, Montse Tomé, has once again addressed the inclusion of Alexia Putellas, who is currently without medical clearance, in the squad for the UEFA Women’s Nations League. In an interview with RTVE, Tomé stated, “There is an expectation that she could be on the field.”
“She is a player who can contribute a lot on the field,” Tomé expressed. “We need to assess her progress in the coming days, see how she’s doing, and based on that, decide whether she can be part of the twenty-three or not.” UEFA regulations permit only 23 players to be registered for the ‘final four,’ and the total list comprises 25 players, including Alexia and Tere Abelleira, who are both in the recovery process.

Tomé reiterated that the captain’s call-up is based on a “clear intention from both parties” and emphasized, “The sporting direction has spoken with the club, and they are the ones who have processed the paperwork for Alexia to come and be here.”
“In assessing Alexia’s recovery process, the medical staff believes she could participate; there is an expectation that she could be on the field. That is the initial assessment for considering that she can be with us,” she added. “And then, of course,” Tomé concluded, “Alexia is a player validated by the group; she is one of our captains. Both on and off the field, not only do we value her, but in every interview that any of her teammates gives, they appreciate her as a great player both on and off the field.”
