Frenkie de Jong Unleashes Frustration: ‘I’m Angry, How Can You Not Feel Ashamed!
FC Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong has lashed out at the media regarding reports on his contract and potential departure. De Jong, a crucial player for Xavi’s Barcelona facing Napoli in the Champions League, expressed his discontent in the pre-match press conference.
De Jong, chosen to address the media ahead of the Napoli vs. FC Barcelona clash in the Champions League Round of 16, is set to start in midfield. De Jong expressed his frustration, stating, “Lately, I’m a bit angry about what the press writes in general; things come out that are not normal. I can’t understand that things that are not true are said. Doesn’t it make you a bit ashamed? All this is irritating me a bit.”
Addressing salary rumors, he added, “You talk about my salary when there’s a lot of smoke. If I earn almost 40 million… it’s far from what I earn. I won’t give figures, but it’s not true. I’m very happy at Barça; it’s the club of my dreams, and I hope to stay here for many years.”
Regarding potential leaks from the club, De Jong said, “I hope it’s not the case; I know many things are invented. These are things that are not true. You do it with a lot of people, players, coaches, and I have the feeling that it won’t change, although I would like it to. You invent things that are not true.”
The midfielder feels great at the club but emphasizes the need for truthful criticism about his gameplay rather than speculative contract details. He categorically denied ongoing contract negotiations and expressed his desire to achieve success in the Champions League after reaching the semifinals with Ajax in the 2018-19 season.
