Pere Romeu (1993, Barcelona) is set to become the next coach of the FC Barcelona women’s first team, succeeding Jonatan Giráldez. A product of the same coaching staff, Romeu spent three years in the male youth football development of Barcelona.

Starting in the grassroots with CP Sarrià and L’Hospitalet, the Catalan coach joined La Masia in July 2017, spending three years as the assistant coach for Benjamín C. Under the guidance of Jordi Roura, Aureli Altimira, and Marc Serra, Romeu climbed the ranks up to Cadete A, consistently serving as the second-in-command.

In both Cadete B and Cadete A, Romeu worked alongside Sergi Milà, now the coordinator of Barcelona’s 11-a-side football, becoming a “football father” figure for him. Together, they coached the 2004 generation, considered one of the best in Masia’s history, featuring talents like Gavi, Ilias Akhomach, Ángel Alarcón, and Aleix Garrido.

In 2020, amid the pandemic, Romeu concluded his tenure in youth football but remained connected with Barcelona. He ventured to Romania, serving as the assistant to Rubén de la Barrera at Viitorul Constanta for a year before returning to the club with a significant challenge.

Described as a “tactical and analytical genius” and an “excellent person,” Romeu was signed by Jonatan Giráldez in the summer of 2021 to join the coaching staff of the Barça women’s team. Since his arrival, the team has clinched seven titles, including the historic UEFA Champions League in Eindhoven.

Within Giráldez’s coaching staff, there are no second or third positions. Both Pere Romeu and Rafel Navarro, the other finalist in the directorate’s casting for the new coach, operate as equal assistants to ‘Jona,’ contributing to decision-making at the same level.

Known for his keen analytical skills and tactical acumen, Romeu observes matches from the top of the stands alongside analysts. He is recognized as a “great student” of players, teams, and matches, specializing in video analysis and maintaining a close relationship with the players. With Pere Romeu at the helm, FC Barcelona’s women’s team is in capable hands.
