Opportunity Knocks for Raphinha: Eyes Starting Role Against Getafe
Brazilian winger Raphinha is poised to secure a starting position against Getafe, providing much-needed rest for Lamine Yamal. Since his medical clearance, Raphinha has made three brief appearances as a substitute.
Preview of Barcelona vs. Getafe:
The Brazilian forward has had three short spells on the pitch since receiving medical clearance two weeks ago, just before the match against Granada. Now fully recovered from a hamstring injury sustained in the Supercopa semifinal against Osasuna on January 11, Raphinha aims to step into a starting role.
Raphinha holds a not-so-favorable memory of the first-round match against Getafe, where he received a red card in the first half after falling for Gastón’s provocation, responding with an elbow. As one of the players rumored for a possible transfer, despite having a contract until June 30, 2027, Raphinha needs to make the most of his playing time until the end of the season.
Throughout this season, the Brazilian has played in 23 matches, scoring four goals and providing seven assists. His speed and impressive long-range shots could prove valuable against Getafe’s expected defensive setup under José Bordalás.
While Raphinha boasted impressive numbers last season, with ten goals and twelve assists in fifty games, filling the void left by Dembélé’s injury, he faced challenges this season due to injuries and the emergence of Lamine Yamal. However, given the opportunity against Getafe, he has a chance to regain Xavi’s trust and secure his continued presence at the club.
