Bordalás: “It’s a Tough and Decisive Defeat
Jose Bordalás admitted that his Getafe side delivered one of their weakest performances in recent months at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys against Barcelona. The Azulones, arriving in Barcelona after two draws and a victory in the league, struggled to find their footing on Montjuïc’s turf. This discomfort was exploited by Xavi’s team, resulting in one of the most substantial victories of the season for Barcelona.
After the match, Bordalás acknowledged the team’s inconsistency, stating, “It’s been a while since we’ve had such a weak performance. We competed below our opponent, and that’s reflected in the result.” The Getafe coach lamented their inability to pose more challenges to a Barcelona side that felt comfortable with space, saying, “We let them shoot with a lot of ease. They had many chances. Just before halftime, they could have scored the second. Nevertheless, we stayed true to our idea, but we didn’t execute it well. We paid a high price.”
Despite attempts to make changes at halftime, nothing proved effective for the visitors. Bordalás commented, “We tried to correct things, changing players’ positions, but we didn’t improve. It’s a shame because we came with the intention of playing well and competing.” Ultimately, he emphasized the need to move on, stating, “We have to forget about this match, turn the page, and start anew. The players were aware that we were not ourselves today.”
